Froebel College, Sion Hill, Blackrock, Dublin
Client:Froebel College of Education.
Frobel College is a listed structure. We were contracted to refurbish a substantial part of the existing building in order to make way for the construction of a new pavilion entrance and 3 storey atrium.
Description of Works
Works involved the part demolition of extensions to an existing 3 storey building which is a listed structure. Piling was necessary prior to commencing the construction of a new 80m2 single storey pavilion entrance and a 300m2 3 storey atrium. A steel structure was inserted at roof level of the new atrium which was finished in glazed panels. 3 flights of steel staircases with steel handrails & glazed balustrades were installed, floor finishes to the galleries & stairs comprised of white oak flooring boards with marmoleum & carpet finishes to the classrooms. The walls to the atrium were completed with a render comprising of lime, cement & sand so as to match the existing finishes. The ground floors are constructed using a concrete sub floor, under floor heating with a self-levelling floor screed complete with a polished granite tile. All mechanical, electrical & alarm systems were upgraded so as to comply with current building & fire regulations. Various other areas of the college were refurbished under the contract. The upgrading of the existing drainage network, roadways, car parks & landscaping completed what was a very complex project.
